One more day and then...

It’s sad, but I can only stay for two days in this wonderful little city. And there is so much more to see. But tomorrow Yolis will take me over the ocean !!!

Today I said goodbye to some of the friends I made here… Probably I will not be able to publish new post on my blog for a few days, but as soon as I get an internet connection I’ll be back. Keep on tuned.

My very first stop: Mechelen !

And so I finally left Vlezenbeek. My very first stop is ‘Mechelen’, just 30 km outside Brussels. My hostess is Yolis. She took me out to town this afternoon for some sightseeing. She told me a lot of interesting things of this nice, historical town.

You can recognize this city from a distance by the majestical ‘Sint-Romboutstoren’ (Saint-Rumbolds Tower) of the cathedral. The tower was never finished but still measures 97.28 meter and you can climb the stairs all way to the top. Inside this tower you can find 49 huge bells, which all have there own names and still are used for the ‘carillon-concerts’. The people in ‘Mechelen’ are very found of flowers, … the whole old city center is decorated with flowers. Mechelen even has a ‘botanical’ garden just across one of the several bridges which give access to the city center, … the ideal place to take a break.

Rat in a Basket

How am I going to travel, I ask myself? Will I travel by car, by airplane, by bus or by boat? Will people put me in a basket? I better start getting used to it, right now. It's just ONE more day, before I leave...

Woody Rat meets Frog

Today I visited my friend Frog. He's my buddy for years. Green and Grey; a friendship for life. We talked and talked for hours. Frog is a world traveler too. He's got his own blog: The Unexpected Life of the Green Frog. He gave me some good advise, we played some chess together and finally we said goodbye. I'm gonna miss that little green fellow.

One for the Road

'Hit the road, Rat!', yeah - that's what I'm going to do. It's always nice to be on the road. You get to know some cars, and more important you get to know some people. I just can't wait!

Bless me, Lord Ganesha

Listen Folks, I read about Ganesha, the famous Indian deity. This is what I learned: "Ganesha is usually shown in sculpture accompanied by or riding a rat. Since rats are seen as being capable of gnawing their way through most things, the rat symbolizes Ganesha's ability to destroy every obstacle. " Oh my god, I coudn't never carry an elephant on my back! But I do hope this Ganesha Figure is going to be on my side during my journey. Should I say a little prayer? It's only a couple of days before I leave my hometown...

The Art of the Street

I really do love grafitti. It's the Art of the Street. It belongs to no one and then again it's every one"s Art. And you know, most of all it's free! I hope I will see some grafitti when I travel around. Will you help me find some?
