Thanksgiving in Redondo Beach (the sequel)

I really enjoyed ‘Turkey Day’ especially (and I'm not complaining, mind you) since Robin's family is vegetarian. You know we rats like to eat everything- not just the same old healthy fruits and veggies all the time! I even got to help carve the turkey and then itwas time to dig in-- take a look at all of the food!

You may have noticed that I look all sparkly clean from the bath Robin gave me before we left on our trip. I also left my buttons in London, so I wouldn't have any trouble going through security. Now I have a wonderful glow from the Californian sun as well.
I feel like a new rat!

Thanksgiving in Redondo Beach

When I am writing this, I am back in London.
I had a lovely time in
California and have some pictures and stories of my stay there to be published on my blog the very next days...

But first, let me tell you about Thanksgiving!
After we finished up working in
Long Beach, we went to stay with Robin's family in Redondo Beach to celebrate Thanksgiving. I really enjoyed hanging out with Robin's family for Thanksgiving!

It was the first time I had the chance to celebrate this and more pictures of it for tomorrow ...

Long Beach, California

Well, I am back in the California. I am always comin' back ... life is great here.
When we got here last week the weather was PERFECT (about 85 degrees - Fahrenheit, of course!).
Here is a picture of me in the hotel -- you can see the Queen Mary and the Long Beach harbor in the background.
Tomorrow we will get ready for Thanksgiving- Janet (Robin's sister) told me I can help carve the turkey. Lookin' forward for it!

Guy Fawkes Day in London

I have been busy the last week. We got dressed up for Halloween and went Trick-or-Treating. This is a new holiday in England and people looked surprised to see us at their doors - especially a rat dressed up as a witch... some of them had to do a quick search of their candy supplies to find something for us, others quickly turned out their lights and pretended not to be at home ... sorry I didn't get any pictures (the batteries died).

A few nights later we went to a huge bonfire and fireworks display. It seems this guy - Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the parliament in 1605, but got caught and so to celebrate there is a holiday to burn him in effigy and set off a lot of fireworks... a bit strange- but who am I to question tradition (being from a breed who picks through rubbish bins)...

Tomorrow I travel with Robin and Madeleine to Long Beach CA. I will write as soon as I can!

Meeting Jeremy Bentham

Yesterday, in the spirit of Halloween Robin took me to University College London (UCL) to see Jeremy Bentham.
As requested in his will, Benthams body was preserved and stored in a wooden cabinet, termed his "Auto-icon". Originally kept by his disciple Dr. Southwood Smith, it was acquired by UCL in 1850. So, although he has been dead for many years, his body is easily found at UCL.
You can find out all about him at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Bentham-Project/info/jb.htm

It was a bit scary being so close to a dead guy - but as you know, rats aren't afraid of dying!
